About the Senior Citizens Legal Advocacy Program
Through a grant from the County of Orange Office on Aging, LASOC's Senior Citizens Legal Advocacy Program (SCLAP) responds to the unique legal needs of the elderly, including issues related to housing and substandard living conditions, mistreatment in nursing homes, elder abuse, denial of government benefits, landlord-tenant issues, Medicare, Medi-Cal and consumer problems. A full range of legal services including representation are provided in these areas.
Along with LASOC's Orange County staff, the program employs the services of eight to ten volunteer attorneys. Further, LASOC provides community outreach to 16 senior centers throughout Orange County and participates with the Alonzo Cortezi Elder Law Clinic at Chapman College, where legal trained and certified students work on court cases alongside LASOC attorneys.
