About I-CAN!™ Legal
In 2002, LASOC created the Interactive Community Assistance Network (I-CAN!™), an Internet-based, as well as a kiosk-operated legal services system designed to provide pro per litigants (persons who represent themselves in court) convenient and effective access to vital legal services. I-CAN!™ Legal users are greeted by a friendly, on-screen video guide, which asks simple-to-understand questions and explains legal terms and Court protocols. By the end of an I-CAN!™ session, properly- formatted Court forms are completed, printed and ready for filing. The kiosk version of I-CAN!™ Legal uses a touch screen and standard keyboard to input answers and is available throughout the Orange County Courts. The program has been honored with distinctive awards, making it one of the most progressive and innovative systems of legal services delivery. Since its inception, I-CAN!™ Legal has facilitated the pro se filing of 50,000 court pleadings. In addition to generating legal pleadings, I-CAN!™ Legal acquaints users with important resources via informational videos, such as how to locate courthouses, find parking, navigate to court rooms and offices, file forms, serve papers, prepare for court appearances, present cases, and more. An individual who accesses the educational features of I-CAN!™ Legal is able to walk away with a feeling of readiness and familiarity with the court process, two important factors for successfully representing him/herself in court.I-CAN!™ Legal can help in the these areas:
