About The Orange County Small Claims Advisor Program

Each county in California is required to have a Small Claims Advisor to provide free legal advice to those who are filing or responding to Small Claims actions. Since the year 2000, the Orange County Superior Court has contracted with LASOC and LASOC has served as the Small Claims Advisor in the County. LASOC provides information to claimants through the Small Claims Advisor Hotline.

Typical claims involve recovery of money from auto accidents, property damage or personal debts. As the Small Claims Advisor, LASOC educates litigants on filing claims and attending hearing through weekly clinics. LASOC is also responsible for the preparation and updating of brochures for litigants and the court.

With the expansion of internet-accessible court assistance, LASOC provides on its website answers to frequently asked questions, "do's and don'ts" related to Small Claims hearings, court forms and codes. Further, LASOC provides onsite courthouse services through its I-CAN!™ kiosks. I-CAN!™ enables individuals to access printable forms and instructions for E-filing or in person filing of their Small Claims actions.
